There’s something special about the beginning of hunting season—it’s the rush, the quiet anticipation, and the satisfaction of the hard work leading up to that first shot. September 7th marked the opening day in Montana, and we were ready to make it count.
After a long trek through Wyoming into Montana, scouting late into the evening, and glassing bucks along the river, we knew this was going to be a hunt to remember. Armed with a deer tag good for whitetail or mule deer, and with the trusty CRÜZR saddle system, we set out to prove that mobile hunting can take you anywhere, even through rivers and into the tightest public land spots.
The Plan: Execute or Adapt?
Montana’s rugged landscape offered us everything—high winds, tough access, and competition from other hunters. We spotted the bucks in the alfalfa fields the night before, but opening day had its challenges. From hunters stationed on public land to the private landowners patrolling their boundaries, every moment kept us on our toes.
Yet, when you’re mobile and adaptable, things start to fall into place. We crossed rivers, maneuvered through tight spaces, and found the perfect spot to set up. But the wind switched, forcing us to adjust our approach.
